As a product development consultancy, Goddard Technologies helps companies and organizations bring their products from concept to reality.  This is made possible by our diverse, multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, designers, and project managers. Goddard intentionally hires staff with a variety of skills and experiences, fostering thoughtful creativity in our work.

Michael Sserwanja, Controls Manager and Principal Controls Engineer at Goddard, exemplifies this creativity and brings a thirst for learning to work every day.

Michael joined Goddard nearly a year and a half ago and immediately started making an impact. He holds a degree in Electromechanical Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology and a Juris Doctor degree from Suffolk Law School. Before joining Goddard, he built a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry. “I love solving challenging tasks,” Michael said. “It’s one of my favorite things about my job.”

As a leader on the Controls Engineering team, Michael takes pride in building a group of “really talented individuals who are self-sufficient and coachable.”  He explains that not only does this make his work easier, but it also sets his team up for success. Under his leadership, the team has spearheaded innovative projects, including designing and building two fully functional sensor labs for an industrial automation client. “I love to see the people on my team grow and succeed,” he added. To support this, Michael dedicates time to mentoring new graduates as they begin their careers.

Michael’s humble approach to learning is what sets him apart as a standout manager. “The biggest challenge I’ve faced in my career is learning how to learn,” he explained. “I put myself in different, challenging situations and discovered how my brain works. Learning is about going to unfamiliar environments and mastering the skills you need to thrive rather than simply survive. You become a student of every environment—good, bad, and ugly. You see every problem as a challenge along the learning journey. You embrace the problems instead of running away from them, and growth becomes inevitable and exponential.” Michael fosters this mindset within his team, encouraging them to embrace challenges and grow from every experience.

Why should companies choose Goddard to support them in their product development process? “The culture at Goddard is strong and conducive to growth,” Michael said. “That’s why we attract the best, most hardworking individuals to our team.”
